1975 BMW E9 CSL Review
The BMW E9 is a range of coupés produced from 1968 to 1975. Initially released as the 2800 CS model, the E9 was based on the BMW 2000 C / 2000 CS four-cylinder coupés, which were enlarged to fit the BMW M30 six-cylinder engine. The E9 bodywork was built by Karmann .

The shape was deftly facelifted on a longer wheelbase to become the E9, launched as the 2800 CS in '68. At full capacity making mainstream saloons, BMW decided to have the low-volume coupés built by Karmann. The E9 CS was nicely finished and expensive - indeed, the 3.0 CSA cost more in the UK than an Aston Martin DBS or a Jensen Interceptor.

Based on the 3.0 CS, the CSL, or Coupé Sport Leichtbau, was a sharper, faster, and lighter iteration of the car it was built on. It brought home a number of trophies for BMW, but it's more fondly remembered as the very first car to be conceived by BMW.
