15 July 2021 Callery Gorge is spectacular, with electric blue water that you need to see with your own eyes to believe it's not photoshopped! The water is as blue and beautiful as the famous Haast Blue Pools near Wanaka, yet it remains relatively unknown. It's staggering that so few people visit when it's such a short easy walk from Franz Josef!

The Callery Gorge Walk begins approximately 5 minutes along the Tatare Tunnels Track with a short, gentle climb to a high terrace behind Franz Josef Waiau township, passing the town water supply pipes and tanks. The track narrows through the rainforest, and follows alongside an old gold mining water race. The water race and some rusty relics.

CALLERY GORGE WALK - Westland Tai Poutini N ational P ark This easy walk begins in the Franz Josef Waiau township, at the end of Cowan Street. We walk the Tatare Tunnels track for 5 minutes then turn right and climb gently to a high terrace behind Franz Josef township, passing the town water supply. The track enters rainforest and passes by an old gold mining water race and rusting relics.

30 November 2021 The Hokitika glow worm dell is one of the best in New Zealand, and probably the best glow worm display we've ever seen outside of a cave environment. The towering dell walls surround you on three sides with what looks like thousands of twinkling fairy lights. It's a truly magical sight.
